Cross-training

Getting the right training is important for fire fighter safety and for effectiveness in suppressing wildfire.

Traditionally, firefighters have been trained to deal with structural or wildland fire, not both. Cross-training helps to bridge the gap. Cross-training between municipal fire departments and the wildland fire agency, ensure that equipment, communications and training courses can effectively be used to fight wildfire in the Wildland Urban Interface.

If you are a fire fighter you can help your community to prepare for wildfire.

FireSmart – Protection Your Community From Wildfire has detailed information on development considerations in Chapter 5: Wildland urban interface training.
